The Cardiothoracic (CT) Surgery Residency Program provides you with a comprehensive training in the entire spectrum of therapy in CT Surgery. You will be exposed to the rich SingHealth CT Surgery clinical case mix ranging from Adult Cardiac Surgery and General Thoracic Surgery to minimally invasive Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery, Heart Failure/Assist Device/Transplant Surgery, Robotically Assisted Surgery as well as Aortic and Endovascular Surgery.
Designed to produce outstanding Cardiothoracic Surgeons, the program is carefully structured with regular formative assessments and timely feedback. You will be closely mentored by dedicated Faculty and your training progress is monitored to ensure that clinical and surgical skills are developed well.
You are invited to join the program after completing either your Transitional Year (TY) or Housemanship. You can also apply for the program in your TY or Housemanship Year. CT Surgery Residents are required to complete two years of Surgery-In-General Residency, which includes:
· 12 months in General Surgery rotation
· Six months in the assigned surgical specialty
· Three months each in Emergency Medicine & Anaesthesia/Critical Care
The advanced CT Surgery training is spent in Cardiothoracic rotations at NHCS, Singapore General Hospital and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
All CT Surgery Residents are to complete:
· Three-and-a-half years of clinical rotations to Adult
Cardiovascular Surgery, Congenital Cardiac Surgery and General Thoracic Surgery
· Six months of General Surgery (Vascular)

The title of Associate Consultant is given upon successful specialist accreditation and registration with the Specialists Accreditation Board and Singapore Medical Council. During the two years as an Associate Consultant, there will be opportunities for further subspecialization in a particular field of interest in CT Surgery.
