About the Programme

The Singapore Integrated Programme (SGIP) for Cardiothoracic (CT) Surgery provides you with a comprehensive training in the entire spectrum of therapy in CT Surgery. You will be exposed to the rich CT Surgery clinical case-mix available at the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS), National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS), and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), ranging from adult cardiac surgery and general thoracic surgery to minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery, heart failure/assist device/transplant surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, robotically assisted surgery as well as aortic and endovascular surgery.

Designed to produce outstanding cardiothoracic surgeons, the programme is carefully structured with regular formative assessments and timely feedback. You will be closely mentored by dedicated Faculty and your training progress is monitored to ensure that your clinical and surgical skills are well developed.

From July 2020 intake onwards, new Residents will be enrolled under the SGIP for CT Surgery, with SingHealth as the administrative centre.

Your Career Prospects & Development

The title of Associate Consultant is given upon successful specialist accreditation and registration with the Specialists Accreditation Board (SAB) and Singapore Medical Council (SMC). During the two years as an Associate Consultant, there will be opportunities for further subspecialisation in a particular field of interest in CT Surgery.
