Endocrinology at a Glance

The SingHealth Endocrinology Senior Residency Program aims to provide you with the advanced training and experience you need to become a consultant endocrinologist.

You will be given the opportunity to diagnose and manage the full spectrum of patients with endocrine disorders.

These include: diabetes mellitus, obesity, osteoporosis and disorders of the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands and gonads, and many more.

You will also get to participate in consultative activities on the inpatient services and be exposed to extensive outpatient experience in Endocrinology on the Program.

SingHealth Medical Senior Residency Program in Endocrinology aims to provide you with the advanced training and experience needed in the field of Endocrinology.

This is a three-year structured program with two training sites. Our primary training site in SGH and major participating site in CGH will offer you a dynamic training environment in all aspects of Endocrinology. In our program, you will gain exposure to a broad spectrum of endocrine conditions and treatments. Our
comprehensive and academic-based program also ensures a strong foundation for you in fundamentals of Clinical Endocrinology and diabetes care.

Why SingHealth Endocrinology?

Strong History in Endocrinology Training

The first endocrine unit in Singapore was set up in Singapore General Hospital, where it eventually developed into a full-fledged department. Many of Singapore’s most prominent Endocrinologists were trained at this department, which continues to produce outstanding leaders and clinicians in the field of Endocrinology.

Depth and Breadth of Clinical Exposure

As the nation’s leading and largest healthcare cluster, SingHealth has one of the largest and most varied pool of patients. The exposure to a wide spectrum of cases, including less common endocrine disorders, allows you to gain a broad clinical experience in Endocrinology.

We have a dedicated pool of faculty from various sub-specialties in the field of Endocrinology to provide you with the comprehensive training you need in all aspects of the specialty. They are committed to medical education and passionate in training the next generation of endocrinologists.

Our Curriculum

The Endocrinology Senior Residency Program at SingHealth is a structured three-year program that will equip you with the medical knowledge, interpersonal skills, professional attitudes, and practical competence required to function as clinical endocrinologists. The first two years will be ACGME-I accredited. The program requires you to rotate through the two teaching hospitals, namely Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and Changi General Hospital (CGH).

You will have the opportunity to diagnose and manage the full spectrum of patients with endocrine disorders. You will also be expected to rotate through sub-specialty clinics including:

  • Diabetes in Pregnancy clinic
  • Young Adult Diabetes clinic
  • Obesity clinic
  • Thyroid Fine Needle Aspiration clinic
  • Osteoporosis clinic
  • Transplant Endocrinology clinic
  • Male Hypogonadism clinic

Other rotations include Paediatric Endocrinology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Nuclear Medicine and Biochemistry.

In addition, you will also get to participate in at least one research project during your training years to gain experience in translational and/or clinical investigation under the supervision of a research mentor.

Career Tracks
The SingHealth Endocrinology Senior Residency Program prepares you for an independent career in Clinical Endocrinology.

Upon completion of the program, you will be promoted to an Associate Consultant in one of the restructured hospitals.

You will be expected to conduct ambulatory clinics in the outpatient setting and run in-patient services as the consultant endocrinologist, leading a team of senior residents, residents and medical students in the ward rounds.

You can also expect to be involved in the teaching program of your Department as residents and medical students rotate through your department. You may also choose to pursue a research career in the field of Endocrinology.
