SingHealth receives more than 500,000 ‘undifferentiated’ patients with high acuity conditions every year. “One-Stop Shop” for Nationwide Emergencies

SingHealth’s emergency departments are “one-stop shops” for emergencies, equipped with 24-hour consultant-based coverage and subspecialty support from all medical and surgical disciplines. Core and physician faculty are available on clinical duties, attending to patients alongside you while you learn the ropes through timely feedback, role modelling and facilitated learning.

Large Team of Disaster Medicine Specialists and Dedicated Faculty
Our faculty pool of clinicians includes trained medical toxicologists and the largest group of disaster medicine management practitioners involved in national disaster and Hazmat programs. Our faculty members are also renowned and dedicated educators with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, able to offer Residents the breadth and depth of clinical learning opportunities. With SingHealth Residency’s focus on Faculty Development, our faculty continuously undergo pedagogy development through Faculty Development programs. Residents can be assured that they are learning from the best in medicine.

Strong Support for Research Opportunities
With more than $3 million set aside for supporting our clinician-researchers and signature research programs with Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, SingHealth’s strategic partner, our Clinician-Scientist and research team can provide you with mentorship and funded research opportunities if knowledge creation is your passion.

The Curriculum

The SingHealth Residency Emergency Medicine Program is an intensive, structured 4-year training program, designed to groom you into a clinically-competent emergency physician with well-rounded exposure to clinical research, medical education and administration. 

Upon graduation from our program, you will complete a further one year of advanced training before your obtaining specialist accreditation as an Emergency Physician with the Ministry of Health’s Specialists Accreditation Board.

Clinician-Scientist Track

Our globally renowned Clinician-Scientists and research faculty will mentor and equip you with the skills and knowledge to become a competent clinician researcher. Enjoy the best of clinical residency training and research skills development as you embark on a career to spearhead the delivery of emergency care to patients.

Career Prospects

As an Associate Consultant, you can choose to practice in a tertiary academic medical centre (SGH, KKH or CGH), regional health care institution (SengKang Hospital), or enrol in a clinical fellowship program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine with KKH Children Emergency Medicine. 

As a Consultant Emergency Physician, there will also be opportunities to specialize in areas like Emergency Cardiac Care, Emergency Trauma Care, Disaster Medicine, Medical Toxicology and others.

As you gain more experience, you will be expected to provide organizational and administrative leadership for emergency departments.
